Papio Supports Primates Through Wildlife Conservation Causes

Winemaker Donates a Portion of Its Profits to the African Wildlife Foundation and U.S. Zoos

October 25, 2005 (San Francisco, CA) - Papio Wines -- fun, fresh, fruit-forward California wines with a heart -- pays homage to its namesake (Papio is the Latin word for Baboon) by contributing a portion of its profits to the conservation of primates and their natural habitats. Papio has recently extended its partnership with the African Wildlife Foundation (AWF) through 2007 and donates to 29 local zoos across the US.

Over the next two years, Papio will donate $120,000 to AWF because of its commitment to protecting and enhancing the continued existence of some of our most rare and treasured primate species. "Our consumers value the fact that Papio stands for more than just great tasting wine. We believe it's important to support wildlife and habitat conservation and we are pleased to partner with an organization as effective as AWF," says Rodney Williams, senior vice president Robert Mondavi lifestyle brands. "In a way, this donation honors our namesake - one of the best-loved primates."

"We are thrilled to continue our relationship with Papio," says Dr. Patrick Bergin, president and CEO of the African Wildlife Foundation. "Although wine and wildlife might appear to have little in common, our partnership with Papio gives primate lovers and conservationists the opportunity to purchase a great wine that also benefits their cause."

The AWF donation program is just one way that Papio supports wildlife and animal welfare. The brand also donates a percentage of its profits to local zoos across the country in support of conservation and education about the world's wildlife and their habitats. Papio has donated more than $85,000 to zoos around the country so far.

"Papio seeks to act globally and act locally," says Rodney Williams. "Consumers know that by choosing Papio, they can actively support wildlife conservation causes while enjoying a terrific bottle of wine."

Papio is a collection of four California varietals from Prospect Peak Cellars - Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot with Pinot Grigio being introduced in early 2006. The wines have all earned awards in international competition, including silver medals at the 2004 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition.

"Papio wines are delicious and priced to drink every day," says winemaker Michael Kafka. "They are fresh and fruity, with a smooth taste that complements all types of foods. We take winemaking seriously, but believe that wine should be fun and approachable."
